Albert Road is Southsea's independent cultural high street, running east to west between the Kings Theatre and Elm Grove. The road is packed with vintage shops, record stores, tattoo parlours, cafes, pubs, bars, restaurants, and small galleries. The Wedgewood Rooms hosts nationally touring bands, and street art and murals appear regularly on shutters and walls. Quarterly traders' events bring live music and stalls onto the pavement. Albert Road is the centre of Southsea's social life and nightlife, and its bohemian character is one of the main things that distinguishes the area from the rest of Portsmouth.
