The Hovertravel terminal at Southsea is the departure point for the hovercraft service to Ryde on the Isle of Wight. The crossing takes approximately ten minutes, making it the fastest route between the mainland and the island. The Southsea to Ryde route is the last remaining commercial hovercraft service in the world. The terminal sits at the western end of the seafront near Clarence Pier. Watching the hovercraft rise on its air cushion and accelerate across the Solent is one of Southsea's distinctive spectacles. The service carries foot passengers and bicycles.
