Palmerston Road is Southsea's main shopping street, with the lower section pedestrianised to create a precinct with benches, planters, and market stall space. The street has a mix of chain retailers, independent shops, cafes, and restaurants. A small market operates on Saturdays. The Victorian and Edwardian buildings along the road retain ornate facades above modern shopfronts. The upper end, near Osborne Road, has a cluster of restaurants and wine bars. Palmerston Road connects Southsea's residential streets to the seafront and is the commercial heart of the suburb.
