South Parade Pier
Heritage, Southsea
South Parade Pier is a Grade II listed pleasure pier at the eastern end of Southsea's main seafront, built in 1879 and rebuilt several times after fires in 1904, 1966, and 1974. The pier extends out over the Solent and has served variously as a concert venue, theatre, dance hall, and landing stage. During the Second World War it was used for D-Day rehearsals. The pier fell into disrepair in the late 20th century and changed hands multiple times. Partial restoration has been carried out in recent years, and the pier now hosts a cafe and occasional events. Its silhouette remains one of the most recognisable landmarks on Southsea's seafront.
