The D-Day Story
Museum, Southsea
The D-Day Story is a museum on Clarence Esplanade dedicated to the Allied invasion of Normandy on 6 June 1944. Portsmouth and Southsea played a central role in the D-Day preparations, with troops and vehicles assembled on Southsea Common before embarkation. The museum houses the Overlord Embroidery, a 272-foot work commissioned to commemorate the invasion, along with personal testimonies, vehicles, weapons, and interactive displays. The museum was refurbished and reopened in 2018 with a new name (formerly the D-Day Museum) and a significantly expanded exhibition. It is the only museum in the UK dedicated solely to D-Day.
