Festivals and Events in Southsea
Annual festivals, fairs, and community events
Southsea hosts a packed calendar of festivals and events throughout the year, taking advantage of the seafront, the common, and the area's vibrant community spirit. The largest is Victorious Festival, held on Southsea Common over the August bank holiday weekend. Victorious has grown from a free local event into one of the south of England's major music festivals, with multiple stages, nationally known headliners, and attendance of around 100,000 across the weekend.
Beyond Victorious, the annual calendar includes the Southsea Food Festival, the Southsea Show (a traditional community show with competitions, displays, and stalls), kite festivals on the common, fireworks displays on the seafront, and a Christmas market and lights switch-on at Palmerston Road. The Albert Road traders hold quarterly events with live music, stalls, and street food.
Smaller events include charity runs along the seafront, open-air theatre performances, and community fetes in the parks and green spaces. The seafront is also the setting for occasional one-off events, from military commemorations to cycling races.
The range and frequency of events in Southsea is notable for an area of its size. The combination of the open common, the seafront setting, and an engaged local population creates natural demand and practical space for outdoor gatherings. Events contribute significantly to Southsea's identity as a lively, sociable place and attract visitors from across Portsmouth and the wider region.
