Victorious Festival Established on Southsea Common

2011

Victorious Festival launched in 2011 as a free music event on Southsea Common and has grown into one of the largest music festivals in the south of England. The festival takes place on the August bank holiday weekend each year, with multiple stages set up across the common overlooking the sea. Headliners have included The Prodigy, Manic Street Preachers, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, The Specials, Rudimental, and many other nationally known acts. The festival offers a wide range of music across its stages, from rock and indie to dance, hip hop, folk, and jazz. In addition to music, Victorious hosts comedy, spoken word, family entertainment, food stalls, a funfair, and a range of bars. The festival's seafront setting is one of its distinctive features, with the stage backdrops including views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. Attendance has grown from a few thousand in the early years to around 100,000 across the weekend. Despite its size, Victorious retains a relatively relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, partly because many attendees are local residents who walk to the site from their homes in Southsea. The festival has become one of the defining annual events in Southsea and Portsmouth, bringing significant economic benefit to the area and raising the city's profile nationally.
