Elm Grove
Street guide, Southsea
Elm Grove runs north-east from its junction with Albert Road, connecting Southsea to Fratton and Milton. It is a busy commercial street with a functional, everyday character: convenience stores, launderettes, takeaways, barbers, phone repair shops, and discount retailers line both sides. The area has a diverse, multicultural feel, reflected in the range of food shops and international restaurants along the road. The surrounding streets are densely populated, with most Victorian terraces converted into flats. Elm Grove sits at the boundary between Southsea and the rest of Portsmouth, and it is one of the city's most energetic, unpretentious streets.
