Jessie Road is a residential street running off Highland Road through a dense grid of Victorian terraces. The houses are two-storey, bay-fronted, and largely converted into flats and shared houses. The street has a significant student population from the University of Portsmouth, alongside longer-term residents. Jessie Road is one of the more affordable addresses in Southsea. The road is typical of the working-class terraces built in the late 19th century to house the expanding population of dockyard workers and their families. The Highland Road shops and Albert Road's bars are both a short walk away.
